Transforming Dublin Airport

The Plan

Building the Skybridge at Dublin Airport

The DAA drew up its Transforming Dublin Airport Plan during 2005 and 2006 following the Irish Government’s decision in mid-2005 that the company should invest in the delivery of significant new passenger and aviation facilities at Dublin Airport.

The initial Plan, involving an investment of up to €2bn over ten years, followed a comprehensive consultation process with airlines and other users of Dublin Airport and an updating of the existing Masterplan for the Airport.

The first €1.2bn stage of the Plan, up to 2010, set out the timeframe for incremental delivery each year of new passenger, airfield and campus-wide facilities, culminating in the opening of a new passenger terminal, T2.

In total, this first phase incorporated up to 120 separate capital projects, each to a value of at least €5m. The objective has been to deliver airport and airfield facilities appropriate to the capital city airport of an EU member state and on a par with those at peer airports such as Copenhagen, Vienna and Zurich.

The Transforming Dublin Airport Programme has been managed directly by the DAA with support, where appropriate, from a number of external international consultants including architects, Pascall & Watson; programme managers, Turner & Townsend, and design specialists, Arup.
